Tanu Weds Manu Music Review

Tanu Weds Manu Music Review: No big names, no big production house, and this is also not a big budget project but has two natural actors, a new director, and, can we now say, an incredibly talented new music director. Tanu Weds Manu starring Kangana Ranaut and Madhavan may not be riding high on buzz, but the promos and the movie’s look has done the trick. People like the promos of the film that features the hit song Sadi Gali.
Tanu Weds Manu Wallpapers
The music of Tanu Weds Manu is by newcomer Krsna and lyrics have been penned by Rajshekhar.

Lehember Hussainpuri’s Sadi Gali gives the album a storming start. This hit Punjabi pop song composed by RDB finds the first place in the album for its spunk and wedding mood. As Tanu Weds Manu revolves around a marriage, this song just fits in and is also the most apt number to promote the film.

Mohit Chauhan gets to belt out the romantic Yun Hi. This song will leave an impression in your mind because of its melody which is not diluted with the heavy use of instruments. The song has quasi-ghazal feel and can remind you of some of the hit soft numbers of the 80s. As for Mohit, the silvery voiced singer continues to get our rah-rah.

Sometimes we just ignore the rich folk culture of music in India; only when a film brings out the folksy tunes that we notice and feel wow. Rangrez, influenced by Rajasthani folk, wins you over with its earthy flavour. It’s a passionate rendition by Krsna, who has got strong vocals.

There is another version of the song Hey Rangrez Mere by none other than Wadali Brothers (Puranchand Wadali & Pyarelal Wadali). The song instantly grabs your attention because of the Sufi duo Wadali Brothers and like always they have delivered a power packed song with their brilliant vocals. A treat for the music aficionados!

The album adds another folksy gem with Piya crooned by Roop Kumar Rathod. This tender song floors us with Roop’s dramatic mix of amazing voice which gives the song a distinct romantic mood.

Now starts the battle between Kanpur and Delhi with Manu Bhaiya. The commonplace lyrics are almost graphic; you can go from Karol Bagh to Qutub Minar within seconds. The song is addictive because of its easy, rustic feel. If Sunidhi Chauhan gets to sing the entire song, the chorus has got the singers Ujjaini, Rakhi Chand, Vivek Naik, Manjeera and Niladri Debnath. Masses can easily relate to this track and that’s what makes it a winner in the album.

Mika makes us forget everything and sing the crackling number Jugni with him. Lyrics of the song in praise of a bold lassie are noteworthy, and make the song a fun to hear. To get into the groove listen to the song. Jugni naughty hai!

Tanu Weds Manu is not like the other Bollywood albums we get to hear now and then. The treatment of the film is different though it’s a masala comedy with cheerful faces and funny dialogues. The songs do full justice to the marriage and masti theme of the movie. There is nothing superfluous about the songs, they lack mush and don’t sound stiflingly romantic. But the diverse range of tracks has one similarity; all are earthy in feel and thus are very endearing.

7 Khoon Maaf Music Review

7 Khoon Maaf Music Review: Darrrrling…Vishal Bhardwaj returns with his acoustic treat in 7 Khoon Maaf. This powerhouse of talent is also a terrific music composer, that we all know. Nevertheless, this man never ceases to surprise himself as well as the audience when it comes to his films and their music.
Vishal gets his all-time hit and favourite Gulzar saab to pen the lyrics for 7 Khoon Maaf. Though the film is a murder-thriller, music buffs, including me, were not expecting much from the album. But if it’s Vishal and Gulzar, don’t we know it’s going to be a jewel of a music album. Oops! did we spill the beans!

Let’s cut to the chase straightaway. You are guaranteed to get hooked to Darling, the only song currently on promos, but you will be shocked to learn who has sung this incredible number? It’s Usha Uthup, who begins the song with Darrrrling and later the tangy voice of Rekha Bharadwaj takes the song forward. The song takes its time to build the tempo and hence drama. By the time it ends you are into it, drenched in its music. The song is reportedly inspired from the Russian chorus song Kalinka, but it’s not devoid of Indian or Bollywood feel. It won’t be less than an explosion when it comes alive on screen with the feisty Priyanka Chopra crooning this addictive number.

Another version of Darling is more dramatic and romantic in its mood. Rekha and Usha Uthup again get a chance to influence us with their dynamic vocals. Like the original, Doosri Darling is also a delight for your auditory senses.

It’s not always a female voice that entices and beguiles. Here is Vishal Bhardwaj singing Bekaaran and drifting you from this materialistic world to the other realm where only beauty holds meaning. The song, a quasi-ghazal soused in classical music and yet very contemporary, will lure with its beautiful, poetic lyrics. As Gulzar writes, aapko dekh kar bade der se meri sans ruki hai; the song also has same impact, it will take your breath way.

Next in the album is O’ Mama which can sound very disturbing after hearing the Darling and Bekaaran. But as 7 Khoon Maaf is a dark film, songs like this are justified even if its offbeat lyrics and haunting music spook us. But at the same time the song’s distressing mood and its lyrics sounds entertaining and truly rocks us. The O’Mama Acoustic is another version which is restrained and surreal. The small track of just one-and-half minutes, with just the guitar strumming in the background, can smooth your senses after the racy rock beats of the original O’Mama.

The album continues its melancholy strain with Awaara in the voice of Master Saleem which echoes the pathos of a wanderer, his fear of loneliness. Yes, it sounds very much like Albela Sajan from Hum Dil Chuke Sanam, but it’s just because of the raagas.

7 Khoon Maaf throws another shocker: after Usha Uthup you will listen to singer Suresh Wadkar in Tere Liye. This soft number is easy on the ears and is like a typical Vishal number apt for a quiet evening. A must-hear track with words like, Tere liye Kishmish chune, pistey chune, kaaju ke saude kiye. Make believe!!

After Dil Dil Dilli from No One Killed Jessica, it’s the turn of Dil Dil Hai. Yes both the songs rhyme and have got the same rock feel. This number is the only song of the album which lacks the spunk.

Susanna’s prayer Yeshu pierces your heart. She is alone, troubled and has no one to soothe her. Who else than Rekha Bhardwaj to sing this number which is not a church song or a religious one but defines the moment of crisis in the protagonist’s life; she is crying for help to God, yet complaining. The album ends in a serious, sad mood.

As said earlier, Vishal likes to surprise the music buffs and with the somber, dark numbers, he has done it again. Bewildered, we are not going to forgive him for this stupendous 7 Khoon Maaf album.

Kareena Kapoor in a new ‘Chhamak Challo’ avatar in ‘Ra.One’

Kareena Kapoor in a new ‘Chhamak Challo’ avatar in ‘Ra.One’: We would say Chhamak Challo is her new 'item' name. Yes, after Sheila and Munni, get ready for Chhamak Challo! Kareena Kapoor’s new item song is from her first superhero, sci-fi film Ra.One where she is paired opposite Shahrukh Khan.
Kareena’s Chhamak Challo avatar required her to look toned and fit. The actress who is more into yoga than cardio went for a strict diet to get into shape with the help of her dietician Rujuta Diwekar. In fact, Kareena maintained the diet even when she was in Vegas shooting with Imran Khan for Short Term Shaadi.

See her look in the song; it’s more like a sexy Marathi mulgi reminding one of Madhuri Dixit’s look in superhit song Humko Aaj Kal Hai Intezar. If Chhamak Challo has beats by Akon to make you go numb, the dance moves are choreographed by the ace dancer Ganesh Hegde. Kareena herself claims that she has never done something like this.

Yana Gupta to plan to cut a Music Album

Yana Gupta to plan to cut a Music Album: There is more to Yana Gupta than has met our eyes so far. No pun intended, but the lady’s now raring to show the world her other talents.

And what these talents are?...you ask. Then let’s update you that besides being a terrific dancer, Yana is also into singing, playing the guitar and the flute.

So now, Yana is possessed with the thought of cutting a music album.

The buzz is that she’s already in talks with a UK-based company for the album.

But before that Yana is set to return to Jhalak Dikhlaa Jaa 4 as the wild card entry and hopes to perform better than she did before her elimination from the dance show. Not just that, she’s also shot an item song for an upcoming Bollywood film. If anything was left, Yana says she’s also eyeing a transition from being an item girl to an actress.

Looks like Yana is bent on milking the publicity she’s got from the panty-less stunt.

Patiala House Music Review: The entertaining tracks

Patiala House Music Review: The entertaining tracks: “Patiala House”; Music Directors: Shankar Mahadevan-Ehsaan Noorani-Loy Mendonsa; Lyricist: Anvita Dutt Guptan; Singers: Mahalakshmi Iyer, Hard Kaur, Shafqat Amanat Ali, Shankar, Earl, Master Saleem, Vishal Dadlani, Suraj Jagan, Alyssa Mendonsa, Hans Raj Hans and Richa Sharma; Rating: ** 1/2″Patiala House”, Akshay Kumar’s first outing of 2011, has music that is not something uncommon, yet most of the songs are entertaining and bring out the signature style of composer trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy.

The album offers 12 songs, including remixes.

“Patiala House” music commences with “Laung da lashkara” with Mahalaxmi Iyer, Hard Kaur and pop singer Jassi - who has made an appearance after a long time - singing it. This is the title track and quite apt for a film that is named “Patiala House”. Full of Punjabi energy and flavour, the song includes a few rap lines as well.

There is a remix version of the number in the album.

After the first song, the album takes a turn and comes up with poignant track “Kya main jagoon” crooned by Shafqat Amanat Ali. It has a long prelude before the vocals begin, but then it is evident that full focus is on the vocals and music becomes secondary. The song changes pace quickly, which is very interesting and cuts the monotony. Shafqat’s voice is praiseworthy and adds weightage to the song. on the whole a beautiful number that strikes a chord with the listener.

It has two more versions - a regular remix and an unplugged version where the tone of vocals is slightly low. These are equally likeable.

Then comes in “Rola pe gaya” that has Mahalaxmi, Shankar, Earl, Master Saleem and Hard Kaur behind the mike. In spite of so many singers, the song fails to make a mark. Initially, it entertains a little bit, but soon the listener loses interest in the not-so-fresh composition. Even the lyrics don’t impress.

The remix version has nothing great to offer either.

Next song “Aadat hai voh” brings in some respite. Sung by Vishal Dadlani, it has a pleasing guitar strumming in the beginning that sets the mood. Then the rise in the tempo with strong orchestration gives the song an edge. It’s a nice, moderate-paced track that grows on you.

“Baby when you talk to me” is the only pure love song in the album, sung by Suraj Jagan and Alyssa Mendonsa. With Hindi and English lyrics, the foot-tapping song is hummable and engaging but you do get a feeling of dejà vu as the composition doesn’t sound too fresh.

This one too has a remixed version.

The next track “Tumba Tumba” is a qawali by Hans Raj Hans and may appeal to those who love qawallis, although the song seems to be more of a situational number.

In the end a Sufi song enters the album. “Aval allah” is also a situational track and might be effective on screen. Sung by Richa Sharma with minimal music, the song does have its high moments.

On the whole, the music of the album is neither bad nor brilliant. Some songs are entertaining and some need more punch. It’s time for Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy to reinvent themselves.

Shahrukh Khan to attend Sunburn Event at Goa

Shahrukh Khan to attend Sunburn Event at Goa: Sunburn organizers have kept under veil Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan's presence for the three-day annual event at Goa's Candolim beach, scheduled to begin on December 27.
Emerging out of a meeting with the Chief Minister Digambar Kamat, Party organizer Harinder Singh told reporters on Thursday that they have not prepared exclusive guests list as the party is open for all ticket-holders.

"We have not prepared any guest list for the event as anyone can buy a ticket and enter the party venue. I don't know whether Shar Rukh Khan will come for the festival," he said.

Singh expressed oblivious when asked whether they have 'send an invite' to King Khan to participate in the much-hyped electronic music party. "I don't know...people buy VVIP, VVIP tickets and there are some guests from the sponsors," was his pat reply.

The organizers meanwhile had a meeting with the chief minister to inform about the procedural delays to approve their proposal seeking permission to host the festival. The event expects a crowd of more than 40,000 people from across the globe.

While the Bollywood celebs have planned for their holiday season, SRK along with his wife Gauri Khan and children are planning their head way to Goa. Sources revealed that the Khan family is expected to let their hair down at the Sunburn festival with their friends.

Music Launching of Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji

Music Launching of Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji : Bollywood actor Ajay Devgan and the cast and crew of the film Dil To Bachcha Hai Ji attended the release of the film's music album in Mumbai. Interacting with media persons at Cinemax on Thursday, director Madhur Bhandarkar lauded Pritam Chakraborty, the music director of the movie.
"Music is very good, Pritam has done a wonderful work and the way he has contributed to the music of the film is very different. Every song is better than the other one. Music is very-very good," said Bhandarkar.

"Music of the film is such that it takes the movie ahead. Like the trend of my other films the music of this film takes the story and screenplay ahead," he added. Devgn termed the movie as an exclusive comedy that would entertain the young and the old alike.

"When you see the film you will feel that such comedy only Madhur can make because as Emraan Hashmi said that it a slice of life. It looks very real and it is a comedy film. It is not a slam stack comedy; it is a situational comedy, which I think is very apt for Madhur," said Devgn.

A R Rahman nominated for Oscars Awards

A R Rahman nominated for Oscars Awards: Indian music composer A R Rahman is making waves in Hollywood yet again.
He’s already secured a nomination for Golden Globe Awards in the Best Original Score category for Danny Boyle’s film 127 Hours. Now, his song “If I Rise” from the same film has been shortlisted for the possible nominees in the Best Song category for the Oscars.

The song “If I Rise” is a collaboration between Rahman and American popstar Dido.

Rahman faces tough competition from other artists who have made it to the shortlist. The Academy members are particularly strict while choosing nominees for Best Song. Though at most five songs can be nominated, there have been times when only three or two songs were considered fit for nomination.

The Oscar nominees will be announced on January 25.
